Southwest's Battle of the Books Team Wants You!
Do you love to read? Are you looking for a challenge? Do you like to compete? Can you work well with a team? If you can answer yes to these questions, then you may be the perfect fit for our team. We have had our first organizational meeting. But it is not too late to get in on the action. Please see Mrs. Goforth or Mrs. Doyle if you are interested!
Requirements to be a Viking team member:
There are 18 books on the Elementary School Battle of the Books list. If you would like to be a part of our team, then you will need to read - REALLY READ - at least 12 of the books. To be a valuable part of our team you will need to become an "expert" on the books you choose to read. Want to read all 18 books? Wonderful! The more you read, the more helpful you will be to our team. There will be regular weekly team meetings to prepare for the competition, which will take place in March. Closer to the competition, we will be meeting at least twice a week. The team is open to fourth and fifth grade students. Third grade students can be on our practice team, but are not allowed to compete. It will be great practice and you will be ready to compete with our team when you become a fourth grader.
Your first challenge:
If you would like to be a part of our team your first requirement will be to get started reading. You will need to read at least 6 of your 12 books by the end of January. At that time we will start taking quizzes to narrow our group of students down to our 12 competitors! Good luck! Now, pick up a book, and get started!
